Biography
Sarah Spurgeon (F’20) is Head of Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Professor of Control Engineering at UCL. Prior to that she served as Professor and Head of Department at the Universities of Kent and Leicester in the UK. Her research activities are in control and monitoring using sliding mode techniques publishing some 270 refereed journal and conference papers, two edited books and two research monographs. She was awarded the Honeywell International Medal for ‘distinguished contribution as a control and measurement technologist to developing the theory of control’ in 2010 and an IEEE Millennium Medal in 2000. She is Vice President (Publications) of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) and a Council Member of the European Control Association (EUCA). She has previously served as President of the Institute of Measurement and Control and President of the Engineering Professors’ Council and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK.
